Solo Art Exhibition: Kent Anderson Butler: Silent Witnesses
Reception and Artist Talk: Tuesday, February 3, 12:30 - 2 p.m. | Exhibition runs January 27 through February 20
This photographic body of work captures the solitary presence of trees in the hushed moments of early morning fog. Enshrouded in a soft, ethereal mist, these arboreal figures emerge as quiet observers of the dawn. The fog, a transient veil, obscures the familiar and lends an air of mystery and introspection to the landscape.
Each series of photographs isolates a single tree, emphasizing its unique form and the intricate network of its branches against the muted backdrop. Stripped bare or softly veiled, these trees stand as sentinels, their stillness suggesting a deep connection to the land and the passage of time. They are the silent witnesses to the awakening of the world.
Through the varying degrees of visibility offered by the fog, the series explores themes of one’s connection to the environment, solitude, resilience, and the subtle beauty found in the liminal spaces between darkness and light. These trees act as observers/witnesses to the things that are going on in our chaotic world. The reduced palette and softened outlines invite contemplation, encouraging the viewer to pause and listen to the unspoken stories held within these silent forms.
