About this Event
5301 Campus Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76119
There is history on the use of cultural components of Indigenous practices within schools, whether camps or sporting events. Although this trend, which continues, has been frustrating for Indigenous people, there seems to be a growing trend of individuals impersonating Indigenous people as academics/researchers and actors. In addition, the use of DNA testing is opening even more misperceptions of ‘claiming the heritage’, which further separates those that are already citizens of Tribal Nations with fragile connections and threatens sovereignty for Tribal Nations as the sole entity to determine legitimate Tribal citizenship.
This presentation is provided to attempt a better understanding of this critical matter. Lunch will be served.
